AIDS2020: Virtual – 23rd International AIDS Conference
At a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has reached more than 10.5 million cases worldwide and caused more than 500,000 deaths, global health experts are of one mind: the impact of COVID-19 on the most vulnerable communities is catastrophic and the progress made against HIV and other infectious diseases are under threat.
Held from 6 to 10 July, AIDS2020: Virtual is a crucial moment of global mobilization and reminds us of the magnitude of the challenges to achieving the HIV-related global goals. Solutions are discussed and health innovations are an important piece of an efficient global response.
Unitaid has rapidly responded to the health emergency caused by COVID-19, and remains committed to fighting HIV and its co-infections, especially for the most vulnerable populations and those most at risk of contracting HIV. Its investments in the fight against the disease account for nearly half of its $1.4 billion grant portfolio.
Unitaid is increasingly joining forces with communities in its work to transform the best innovations into health solutions for all.
At AIDS2020: Virtual, Unitaid’s investments in HIV self-testing, PrEP and long-acting technologies to help end the epidemic will be put in the spotlight. The importance of simplifying diagnosis and integrated approaches to increase access to testing and treatment will also be widely discussed.
