Geneva, Switzerland – Unitaid applauds today’s election of Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). Dr Tedros has the drive, experience and passion to lead the WHO towards a healthier future.

“On behalf of Unitaid, I would like to congratulate Dr Tedros for his successful election,” said Lelio Marmora, Unitaid Executive Director. “We very much look forward to continuing our close partnership with the WHO under its new leadership as we strive to mitigate global health risks, including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and beyond.”

Unitaid works with partners, including the WHO, to identify existing gaps in the global health response and brings new medical discoveries to the people who need them most.

“It is through partnerships that Unitaid drives innovation and creates the right conditions for mass introduction of pioneering medicines, diagnostic tests and prevention tools to end global health threats,” said Celso  Amorim, Unitaid Board Chair.
