Itumeleng Komanyane
Technical advisor for community and civil society engagement
With over a decade of experience in community and civil society engagement across Africa, Tumie brings a wealth of expertise in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), HIV, gender equality, and engaging men and boys in gender justice. Tumie is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in development studies at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. She holds a Master of International Development from the University of Western Australia and a degree in Social Science from the University of Botswana.
Before joining Unitaid, Tumie worked with Frontline AIDS in Johannesburg, leading HIV and SRHR programs for adolescents and young people across Africa. She also previously worked with Sonke Gender Justice in South Africa, where she managed the MenEngage Africa Chapter focused on gender justice, human rights, and SRHR in 21 African countries.
Originally from Lesotho and raised in Botswana, Tumie brings her passion and dedication to advancing health, gender justice, and human rights through movement building, community mobilization, strategic management, and capacity development.
