At COP30, Unitaid will join partners to highlight how innovation can make healthcare more sustainable and resilient in the face of climate change. Across five sessions in the Blue Zone – including at the Brazilian, French, and Health Pavilions from 11–13 November – Unitaid will showcase practical solutions spanning low-carbon health products, climate-resilient supply chains, and equitable approaches to adaptation.
Unitaid works to tackle the two-way link between climate change and global health. Its efforts focus on both reducing the environmental footprint of health products and helping countries adapt their health systems to the growing impacts of a warming world. Work on adaptation spans several fronts, from advancing innovations that tackle climate-sensitive diseases, to strengthening supply chains and ensuring product performance in challenging environments. Following initial investments spanning mitigation and adaptation opportunities, Unitaid is now investing USD $10 million to improve the heat stability of health products.
Co-hosted by Unitaid, CEPI, DNDi, MMV and PAHO, this event will showcase the importance of partnerships to develop innovative solutions, from new product development and delivery strategies, to supply chain innovations and community-based care models. The event will be livestreamed, tune in here.
Co-hosted by the Government of Brazil and Unitaid, this event will highlight how the Belem Health Action Plan can support investments in regional manufacturing, innovation networks, and technology transfer to strengthen health sovereignty and sustainability, ensuring equitable access in a world increasingly affected by climate change.
Co-hosted by Health Care Without Harm, Unitaid and the Asian Development Bank , this event will discuss strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of supply health chains while increasing their resilience to climate threats. The event will be livestreamed, tune in here.
This event will explore how increasing heat and humidity affect the stability, safety, and effectiveness of essential health products, and how countries, communities, and partners can strengthen systems and innovation to address these challenges. This event will explore how increasing heat and humidity affect the stability, safety, and effectiveness of essential health products and how innovative solutions can address these challenges. Building on this commitment, Unitaid is investing USD $10 million to accelerate the development of heat-stable health products. Details on the call for proposals can be found here. Co-hosted by Unitaid and the French Government, this event will spotlight low-carbon health products and innovative models of care that reduce emissions and strengthen health resilience, positioning them as essential to climate action and sustainable development.
Organized by the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care, the Canadian Association of Pharmacy for the Environment, the Global Climate & Health Alliance, the Northwest Territories Medical Association, and the Peter Gilgan Foundation, this event will showcase practical success stories in reducing the health sector’s environmental impact. Participants will explore two leading examples: the phaseout of desflurane, a super-polluting anesthetic gas, and efforts to decarbonize HIV drugs used for both prevention and treatment. Together, these cases illustrate how innovation and collaboration can advance low-carbon, sustainable health care.
This session will showcase country examples and reflect on how to accelerate action for low-carbon, climate-resilient, sustainable health systems.
