A United Kingdom Government review has found that Unitaid is a “critical enabler, amplifier and accelerator” of global health investments, recognizing its role in translating innovation into large-scale, equitable health impact. Reflecting this finding, the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) awarded Unitaid an A+ rating for the second year in a row. This rating reflects sustained strong performance and confirms Unitaid’s role as a leading global health organization delivering impact at scale in an increasingly challenging financing environment.

The review recognizes Unitaid’s ability to exceed expectations in accelerating access to innovative lifesaving health products, shaping markets to lower prices and expand supply and strengthening partnerships with countries, communities and global health actors. It highlights the continued scale-up of Unitaid-supported innovations, which now reach hundreds of millions of people each year across more than 100 countries.

The United Kingdom’s Annual Review notes that “Unitaid bridges the gap between upstream product innovation and country healthcare programmes, promoting equitable access, and therefore is a critical enabler, amplifier and accelerator for both the FCDO’s other global health investments (e.g. the Global Fund, Gavi, WHO, GFF) and its broader global health strategy.”

The review points to Unitaid’s progress across its portfolio, including accelerating the introduction and adoption of priority health products, advancing new areas such as regional manufacturing, medical oxygen and climate-smart health solutions and maintaining effective governance and operations. It also notes Unitaid’s ability to deliver results and respond strategically despite global funding constraints.

“This recognition from the United Kingdom is a powerful endorsement of Unitaid’s mission and the dedication of our partners and teams,” said Dr. Philippe Duneton, Executive Director of Unitaid. “For the second year in a row, an A+ rating shows that our access to innovation approach delivers real value, helping ensure that critical health innovations reach people who need them most, faster and more equitably.”

A founding supporter of Unitaid since 2006, the United Kingdom remains a key partner in advancing Unitaid’s work. Building on this momentum, Unitaid will continue working with governments, communities and global partners to address evolving health challenges, strengthen health systems and expand equitable access to innovation across HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, maternal and child health and pandemic preparedness.
