Unitaid hails appointment of Christine Stegling to head HIV/AIDS alliance

UNITAID welcomes the appointment of Christine Stegling, a leading actor in the HIV response with experience in international development and human rights, as the new Executive Director of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance.

Congratulating Ms. Stegling on her appointment, UNITAID Executive Director Lelio Marmora said: “I am delighted with the appointment  of Christine Stegling to lead the Alliance and sincerely look forward to engaging with her. Christine brings a wealth of experience from a country, Botswana, which has experienced the full force of the HIV pandemic.”

Christine worked in Botswana for 10 years, initially for the Ministry of Health, then as a lecturer at the University of Botswana. For eight years she was also the director of the Botswana Network on Ethics, Law and HIV/AIDS.

In addition, she was a member of Botswana’s National AIDS Council and a member of the Botswana Country Coordinating Mechanism for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
