18-30 September 2018

73rd Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 73)

Countries have committed to reducing the incidence of tuberculosis by 90 percent between 2015 and 2035 as part of the WHO End TB Strategy. But hitting global TB targets now depends on the ability to reach millions of underserved people with adequate prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

On 26 September, the United Nations will hold its first-ever high-level meeting on TB in New York, which is expected to result in a political declaration to strengthen action and investments for the End TB response.

Unitaid seeks to find faster, more effective and more affordable ways to diagnose and treat TB and address drug resistance. The high-level meeting is an opportunity for Unitaid to highlight its deep and continued commitment to ending TB and the impact it has had in bringing health innovations to people who need them most. Its current TB grants, worth US$ 215 million, are designed to speed access to new and better solutions for tackling latent, drug-resistant and childhood TB.
